The Togolese authorities have just announced the launch of an international tender process for the construction of the Dapaong Solar Power Plant. This facility is designed to generate a peak power of 25 MWp and will include a storage capacity of 40 Megawatt-hours, which will illuminate approximately 60 rural localities in the Savanes region.

The selected firm will be responsible for the comprehensive design, supply, and installation of the solar power plant and storage system, within a timeframe of 12 to 16 months. The submission deadline for bids is June 4, 2024.

This project is a pivotal step toward Togo’s energy independence and resilience, aligning with larger regional objectives such as the Regional Emergency Solar Power Intervention Project (RESPITE program), which aims to enhance grid-connected renewable energy capacity across Chad, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Togo. It also falls under the Emergency Resilience Strengthening Program in the Savanes Region (PURS), enhancing energy security for local communities nationwide.

As construction progresses, the Dapaong project will not only augment Togo’s current solar capacity but also integrate with upcoming projects such as the expansion of the Blitta plant to 70 MWp, and new installations in Sokodé and Kara, each with capacities between 60 and 80 MWp, as well as solar mini-grids planned for 317 rural localities.

These initiatives reflect the Togolese government's commitment to achieving universal energy access and a 50% renewable share in its national energy mix by 2030.
