The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) of Mexico has inked a cooperation agreement with the Danish Energy Agency to launch a series of green initiatives. This collaboration is set to fast-track Mexico's energy transition by cultivating a portfolio of green projects with a sharp focus on wind energy.

Stine Leth Rasmussen, the Director of the Danish Energy Agency, expressed pride in advising Mexico in the realm of renewable energies. "Smiles all around! The reason: we've just signed a new cooperation agreement between Mexico's CFE and the Danish Government. The goal is to develop a greener energy portfolio, especially through the deployment and integration of large-scale wind energy," she highlighted.

She emphasized the importance for the Mexican government to ensure a green transition that is socially equitable, promoting job creation and economic growth. Leth Rasmussen added that Denmark's expertise in wind energy would be highly beneficial for the Mexican government in its energy transition.

"By sharing experiences with the deployment and integration of renewable energies, Denmark can assist Mexico in a cost-effective green transition with high supply security," she remarked.

She acknowledged CFE's crucial role in the green transition within the electrical sector as the largest electric company in Latin America. "With a power generation capacity of nearly 70 GW!"

The Mexican government is keen on reviving its wind energy capacity, after focusing extensively on solar and hydropower resources. According to the latest data from the Mexican Wind Energy Association (Amdee), wind capacity reached 7.4 GW in 2023. Although the industry had ambitions to double the capacity to reach 12.0 GW during the term of President López Obrador, which ends in October.
