In an unprecedented move, Chile has announced its ambitious target to source 80% of its energy consumption from renewable resources by the year 2030. This initiative places Chile at the forefront of the global shift towards sustainable energy, leveraging its unique natural assets, including the world’s highest solar radiation in the Atacama Desert, consistent and strong winds across the country for wind energy, and significant untapped potential in marine energy, biogas, and geothermal resources.

As of February 2024, the nation has already seen remarkable progress, with renewables accounting for 41% of its energy generation, bolstered by an impressive installed capacity exceeding 15,000 MW across wind, biomass, and geothermal energies. Luis Felipe Andrés Ramos Barrera, Chile's Undersecretary of Energy, emphasized the country's dedication to this transformative goal, highlighting the pivotal role of renewable energy in Chile's future energy landscape. "Reaching a 96% renewable generation rate in February showcases our potential and firm commitment to a sustainable and renewable future," stated Ramos Barrera.

This bold step not only underscores Chile's commitment to combating climate change but also sets a significant benchmark for renewable energy adoption worldwide. With its strategic investments and policies, Chile is not just aiming for sustainability but also for leadership in the global energy transition.
