SEN'EAU Aims to Enhance Energy Efficiency Through Solar Initiatives

SEN'EAU, the Senegalese company responsible for the management of urban and peri-urban drinking water operations, is embarking on a strategic partnership with TotalEnergies. Through its subsidiary, TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Middle East Africa, SEN'EAU plans to develop two solar photovoltaic power plants in Senegal, aiming to reduce operational costs and align with its sustainability strategy.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on March 28th, marking the beginning of this significant collaboration. These plants will boast a combined capacity of 20MWc, contributing significantly to local energy needs. Specifically, the Mékhé solar plant, located in the Méouane commune, is expected to produce 20 GWh, covering 32% of the energy requirements for the Mékhé booster station. Meanwhile, the Keur Momar Sarr plant is projected to generate 25 GWh.

Construction of both plants is slated to commence this year, a move that will create approximately 100 jobs and, upon completion, dozens more, stimulating the local economy and benefiting the communities of Mékhé and Keur Momar Sarr directly. This initiative is in line with SEN'EAU's and TotalEnergies' commitment to promoting energy efficiency and environmental preservation. Moreover, it supports the Senegalese government's goal of decarbonizing the economy by prioritizing renewable energy, facilitated by support from developed nations through a fair energy transition partnership.

This partnership between SEN'EAU and TotalEnergies is a critical component of Senegal's broader energy transition efforts. By focusing on renewable energy sources, the country not only advances its journey towards energy independence but also commits to protecting the environment and promoting the socio-economic development of its people.
