Sigde began her studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, focusing on biology with a specialization in bioprocesses and molecular genetics. She then pursued a PhD in biochemistry at the University of Chile, while simultaneously starting a second PhD in microbiology at Aix-Marseille University in France. With over 10 years of experience, she is a researcher specializing in R&D&I projects related to biomining, particularly in bioleaching processes and the decontamination of mining process waters. Currently, Sigde is part of the academic team at the School of Mining Engineering at Federico Santa María University and is the founder and CEO of SigMatech, a company that applies biotechnologies to the mining sector on an industrial scale.
