Enel Colombia has proudly announced the commencement of commercial operations at its El Paso solar farm, located in the Cesar department, following a significant expansion. The solar farm's capacity has been enhanced by 13.3 MWdc, bringing the total installed capacity to an impressive 99.5 MWdc. This expansion includes the initial 86.2-MWdc section completed in 2018 and the recent addition in 2023.
This strategic development was in response to Enel Colombia's successful bid in Colombia's 2019 reliability charge auction, where it was tasked with delivering 67.92 MW of net effective capacity from the El Paso solar farm to the national electricity system. The farm, which spans 240 hectares in the El Paso municipality, is equipped with 274,320 solar modules and is projected to produce approximately 203.5 GWh of electricity annually. Since its initial phase, the solar farm has generated over 724 GWh of electricity, contributing significantly to the region's energy supply.
The El Paso solar farm, alongside the newly inaugurated La Loma solar farm, positions Cesar as a leading region in Colombia for solar energy production. This is particularly crucial in addressing the challenges posed by the El Nino phenomenon, which has led to low reservoir levels in the area.
