As part of its comprehensive environmental strategy, Chile is aggressively pursuing the advancement of electric vehicles (EVs) within its borders, aiming to significantly reduce its carbon footprint and address pressing environmental challenges. The government's "National Electromobility Strategy" is at the heart of this initiative, focusing on expanding the EV charging infrastructure and enhancing incentives for the acquisition of electric vehicles.

Despite the competitive operational costs associated with electric vehicles, the high initial purchase price remains a considerable barrier to widespread adoption. However, the Chilean government is optimistic about making EVs more accessible and affordable for the populace in the near future. A key component of this strategy is the aggressive expansion of the EV charging infrastructure to support the anticipated demand from the projected 81,000 electric vehicles by 2024.

Undersecretary of Energy, Luis Felipe Andrés Ramos Barrera, highlighted the holistic approach needed to foster electromobility in Chile. "Beyond introducing electric vehicles, it's about creating a supportive ecosystem for electromobility to thrive," Ramos Barrera explained, emphasizing the crucial role of a robust charging infrastructure.

With 2,000 electric buses already operational in Santiago's RED System by January 2024, Chile is making significant strides towards cleaner public transportation, reflecting its broader commitment to sustainable mobility solutions and a cleaner, greener future.
